Welcome to Music – Brain Network!

MBN is an open research community for music lovers who own an Emotiv EPOC Headset.

The main goal of this community is to collect music-emotion data from music lovers using EPOC Headset and a custom app. Then using the data, create a global music – emotion graph, and see what exactly gives us goosebumps in a specific song, what changes between cultures, ages, continents etc. etc.

The app records your emotional brain activity, while you’re listening to music, synchronizes your emotional data with music’s timecode, and saves it as “.mbn” files.

This way you can see which part of the song excites you the most, gives you goosebumps, makes you smile, or makes you cry. (and maybe check your emotional-graphs on your computer?)

Research Groups

MBN has a Research Group based workflow. You can start a new group, or join the existing research groups. Then you can upload your “.mbn” files to the group, and help the research.

Opening your emotional-activity to everyone, is of course optional. (Public or Private it’s your choice)

Research groups’ names has to be in a specific format. The standard is : “band name – song name – total length” ex. “Coldplay – Don’t Panic – 2:17″ (length helps us pick the correct version of the song just in case if there are other versions available)

Global Music – Emotion Data

Every week, the server will put together all uploaded “.mbn” files, do some math, and show us graphs of the global music-emotion data in related research groups. Ex :

“Coldplay – Don’t Panic – 2:17″ Research Group – 30 Contributors

“Miles Davis – In A Silent Way – 15:20″ Research Group – 70 Contributors
